Dear John,

I hope all is well there with you.
I am dropping you a line to gauge your interest in a story pitch that I am working on regarding a Hurricane Sandy second anniversary memorial event here in Staten Island in which several parishes, such as St. Margaret Mary’s, and some Catholic Charities members are involved.
The remembrance event is called “Light the Shore” and it will be held on Oct. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Midland Beach — the location of much disaster during and after the storm.
I am doing some freelance media relations work for the lead organization that is hosting the event so I am hoping to parlay that into an opportunity to write either a preview of the event for publication in CNY before the 29th, or an after the event story to run sometime immediately following.
I plan to focus on members of parishes, and Catholic leaders and groups in attendance, and include some of their struggles during the last two years since the storm, including how they seek solace and comfort from this event as a means of gaining support and love from their fellow parishioners and larger Staten Island faith-based community.
The group leading the event is called Staten Island Long-Term Recovery Organization — which is a grassroots coalition of inter-faith and community organizations that teamed together to provide services, resources, outreach, and donations to Sandy affected home-owners and residents here in Staten Island.
Please let me know if you are interested in stories about the event — either before or after — as well as photographs as I will be in attendance that night and covering for other media outlets and distribution as well.
I think it would make a great feature story — either before or after — the arrival of such an important, yet somber, anniversary as so many here are still struggling to make it back home or start new lives.
I could potentially write a 300-400 word preview story, and/or a 700-800 word (or larger) recap of the event with photos if you are interested.
Thanks for the consideration and I hope to hear back from you soon.
